MakerWorld’s time at the Piazza Centre is coming to an end and our final exhibition (2,4,9,11 April) marks the close of this chapter, but definitely not the end of MakerWorld.
Our space in the Piazza Centre has been many things, a workshop, a classroom, a playground, a place of welcome and, above all, a community. It’s also been home to our one-year pilot for The Children’s Art Gallery, a venue to test ideas and show what happens when young imaginations are given the room (and the materials!) to properly explore. We think we’ve managed it and we’re ready to try and make it happen in the right venue.
Our final exhibition is open to everyone who has ever been part of MakerWorld. We’ll be showcasing old favourites and community creations that have shaped our story so far, using up all the scraps and leftovers before we leave the building.
In the Saturday sessions leading up to the exhibition March 14th, 21st, 28th, we’ll further explore creative techniques from last year with artist Isobel Denton of A Bit More Ink with recycled materials that will allow every member of the MakerWorld family to leave a trace of their time on the piazza with us. This collective record of our shared presence over the years will become our final collaborative artwork together, created to commemorate MakerWorld’s last days in the Piazza.
We invite everyone who has ever been part of MakerWorld to join us and celebrate your involvement in this special closing chapter.
We don’t yet know where our next home will be but we do know that the creativity, curiosity and collaboration that filled the Piazza will continue, somewhere, somehow.
We feel incredibly lucky to have shared this space with all of you. We can’t wait to see where the journey will take us and we really hope you’ll come with us!
