Off Script: Youth Power Week at MakerWorld – young people get creative in Huddersfield this half term

We’ve got some fab stuff for young creatives this February half term, with a week of hands-on workshops with professional musicians, filmmakers and sculptors in the heart of Huddersfield.

Running from 16–20 February 2026, the MakerWorld Youth Power Week, supported by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Fund, will give teenagers a chance to learn new skills, make art and connect with local artists in a friendly, creative town-centre environment.

The week kicks off on 16 and 17 February at MakerWorld with a film-making workshop with Studio Bokehgo. Budding directors can work alongside local filmmaker John Slemensek to gain hands-on experience of all areas of filmmaking.

On 18 and 19 February, artist Mick Kirkby-Geddes will lead workshops where participants can experiment with metalwork and welding to create their own small-scale steel sculptures. Theatre-lovers can also go backstage at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on 18 Feb to find out more about careers in the theatre.

Budding musicians can join Jam Factory for music production workshops on 18 and 20 February. Led by a professional musician and producer, these sessions will introduce the essentials of digital music-making, from beat-building to mixing and recording.
