There will be a family screening of MakerWorld, the documentary by Maire Tracey on Saturday 26 October at 2pm at MakerSkate.
This short film tells the story of free drop-in arts sessions for children, held in an empty shopping unit in Huddersfield town centre.
Set against the background of a town struggling to reinvent itself in a post-Covid world, Makerworld offers a utopian glimpse of how town centres could exist if they replaced consumerism with community.
Told through the lens of the parents who attend the weekly sessions with their children, we hear about the benefits of community art – from stress relief to confidence and from social mobility to inclusivity.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Maire Tracey. MakerWorld activities will be taking place from 11am to 3pm.
